The letter below was sent to the editor of the Christian Science Monitor series, Inside red-and-blue America.

Hello,

Just read the first in your series regarding "...The US political landscape is more sharply - and evenly - split than any other in generations..."

Am looking forward to the rest of the series.

While you are on target with most of your opinions I think that there is the larger question of why we are split. It is the actions of the current administration to use endless war and violent confrontation as a tool to secure "Western" (American) values, Christian beliefs, laws, economic 'isms and peace in the name of democracy. At the expense of native cultures, traditions and economics. While at home seeking to limit personal privacy and rights of the individual. Smells like the British "political economy" [Paddy's Lament, Ireland 1846-1847: Prelude to Hatred ] that starved the Irish out of their homeland in 1847 as food was shipped people starved. When will powerful nations begin to use their economic powers and energy to educate, build homes, healthy environments, individual happiness and freedom and peace that others want - not that they think they should have. And when will this be done without regard for profit and gain - but for the reason that is a basic human right. The differences that "the Blues" as they are called have with the Bush administration go deeper than anyone has yet had the courage to point out.

Sincerely yours,
Bernard Re, Jr.
